Ageing Skin

Each year, millions of Australians seek non-surgical rejuvenation treatments to enhance their appearance and boost their confidence.  With the ageing process becoming a concern for many, the demand for these treatments has surged.

Australians spend approximately $1 billion on non-surgical treatments a year.  This trend reflects a growing preference for non-invasive options, which typically involve shorter recovery times, lower costs, and natural-looking outcomes compared to traditional cosmetic surgery.

Advances in medical technology have made these effective non-surgical procedures widely accessible, allowing individuals to achieve their aesthetic goals without the complexities associated with invasive methods.

AGEING FAQs

What causes the Skin the Age?

The ageing process of the skin is caused by a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic factors.  Intrinsic ageing is genetically predetermined and is influenced by hormonal changes, such as those occurring during perimenopause and menopause, which leads to a decrease in skin cell turnover.

This reduction affects the skin’s structure, resulting in diminished fat tissue, hydration and the production of essential proteins like collagen and elastin.  On the other hand, extrinsic factors also play a significant role; environmental influences such as prolonged sun exposure, smoking, poor dietary habits, and exposure to harsh weather conditions can accelerate the ageing process.  Together, these factors contribute to the overall appearance and health of the skin as it ages.

What does Ageing Skin look like?

Ageing skin is often characterised by a variety of visible changes that reflect the natural ageing process.  Fine lines and wrinkles become prominent as the skin loses elasticity and collagen, leading to thinner skin that may appear more fragile.

Textural changes may also arise, resulting in uneven skin tone and discolouration, often exacerbated by factors such as sun exposure and lifestyle choices.  Additionally, baggy eyelids and sagging jawline are common features as the supporting structures of the skin weaken over time.  In smokers, a yellowish, sallow complexion can develop due to the damaging effects of nicotine and other toxins, further contributing to the overall appearance of ageing skin.

Ageing skin is often identified by the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Thin skin
  • Textural changes and/or discolouration
  • Baggy eyelids and jawline
  • A yellowish, sallow complexion (often seen in smokers)

Treatment Options For Ageing Skin

Pearl Fractional Laser Treatments

Pearl Fractional Laser Treatments are considered the ‘gold standard’ in laser rejuvenation for ageing skin.  This advanced ablative fractional laser effectively targets both the epidermis and dermis by delivering laser energy through precisely defined columns known as microthermal treatment zones (MTZ).

This dual action not only addresses visible signs of ageing on the skin’s surface, such as fine lines and uneven texture, but also stimulates collagen production deep within the skin.  By promoting the regeneration of collagen, Pearl Fractional laser treatment facilitates the replacement of aged collagen with newer, healthier collagen, resulting in improved skin resilience and a more youthful appearance.

Skin Peels

Skin peels are aesthetic treatments designed to promote gentle exfoliation of the outermost layers of the skin.  By removing dead skin cells, these peels enhance the skin’s barrier function, leading to improved texture and tone.

The process stimulates increased production of collagen and elastin, crucial proteins that provide structure and elasticity to the skin.  Additionally, skin peels can boost overall hydration levels, making the skin appear more radiant and youthful.  Regular treatments can help address various concerns, including fine lines, acne scars, and uneven pigmentation, contributing to healthier, more vibrant complexion.

Collagen Induction Therapy

This particular procedure is commonly referred to as ‘Skin Needling’. We use a hand held device that has titanium microneedles that are 2mm in length. These microneedles penetrate deep into the dermal tissue creating channels that are responsible for increasing collagen and elastin production. As a result, the dermal tissue thickens, which provides more volume to the skin as well as significantly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

When Will I See Results & Are The They Permanent?

Any treatment that is designed at targeting collagen stimulation will take around three months to see results. These results are permanent however, over time the skin will still go through its normal ageing process and if not looked after, this process can be accelerated by environmental and lifestyle factors.

The CRC Approach To Skin Rejuvenation

To determine the most suitable treatment for you, we recommend an initial skin analysis consultation with our dermal clinician.
