What’s Involved With Laser Resurfacing?
Welcome to the most advanced laser rejuvenation treatment that addresses a variety of skin concerns and conditions in an incredibly targeted and personalised way. Known as the “gold standard treatment” for laser rejuvenation, the Pearl Fractional Laser is a step up from all your non-ablative laser treatments. The Pearl Fractional Laser is an “ablative” treatment that, as the name suggests, treats a certain percentage of the skin. This fractional laser works by emitting microscopic columns of laser energy into the skin whilst leaving the adjacent to the ablated columns relatively untouched. By being fractionally ablative, this reduces the recovery period of the treatment as well as significantly reducing the risks of any post treatment complications or unwanted side effects. For many clients, this is a viable compromise, given how much longer the recovery period associated with fully ablative lasers is.
Moreover, Fractional Laser effectively works on both the surface area of the skin (epidermis) as well as the deeper layers of tissue (dermis), delivering much more comprehensive and longer-lasting results.
If you decide to undergo Fractional Laser treatment, you can expect to see results after three to four months. Most people opt for one session a month to allow for enough healing and reparation time between each session.
Is Laser Resurfacing Painful?
The Pearl Fractional Laser treatment does involve a degree of discomfort. The level of discomfort a client can feel depends on the treatment intensity required to achieve optimal results. As this is an ablative laser, the laser penetrates through the skin at an extremely high temperature causing the columns of tissue to vaporise. To minimise the level of heat discomfort a client feels, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area 45 minutes to an hour before commencing the treatment. This provides a numbing effect on the skin.
Following a laser rejuvenation treatment, some clients experience some level of discomfort. In most cases, the degree of heat felt can be the most uncomfortable. This is usually for the first 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. To alleviate the heat felt, the client is encouraged to apply an ice pack until all the heat has disappeared from the skin. Clients can also experience mild to moderate skin redness, swelling, crusting and peeling post-treatment as the skin goes through its controlled wound healing phases. Again, this will depend on the intensity of the treatment required and can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. Sun avoidance and gentle cleansing of the skin are paramount during this time.
