Let’s Talk Pigmentation
At CRC, pigmentation is one of the most common concerns I see in clinic, and it’s something that develops gradually over a lifetime of sun exposure, combined with factors like hormones. The upside? There are effective ways we can manage, treat, and prevent it.
What Is Pigmentation?
Pigmentation is caused by melanin, the natural pigment that gives colour to our skin and hair. While melanin plays an important role in protecting us from UV rays, too much sun exposure can lead to uneven patches, spots, or discolouration. Hormonal changes can also make pigmentation more noticeable.
Where We Start: Consultation & Education
When you come to CRC, we always begin with a full consultation. This allows us to:
- Understand your skin condition and concerns
- Build trust and confidence in the process
- Educate you on prevention and long-term skin health
- Tailor a personalised plan to your skin
Everyday Protection at Home
The first step in preventing further pigmentation is sun protection. Daily use of:
- Sunscreen or mineral makeup with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide (which also soothe inflammation)
- Cosmeceuticals with Tyrosinase inhibitors, which slow down melanin production. These include:
- Retinoids
- L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
- Tranexamic acid
- Kojic acid
These products below can be used everyday in the morning to brighten and illuminate your skin over time.
In-Clinic Treatments: Our Most Popular Option
For many clients, in-clinic treatments are the preferred choice. At CRC, we often recommend:
- Laser therapy to reduce unwanted pigment and reveal clearer, more even-toned skin
- A course of treatments tailored to your skin’s needs
- Minimal downtime – most clients return to daily activities straight away
It’s normal for pigmentation to darken slightly before fading within 7 days. Every skin is different, so treatment is always personalised.
Why Consultations Matter
Before starting any treatment, we require a skin consultation with one of our qualified dermal clinicians. During this time, we will:
- Assess your skin and specific type of pigmentation
- Explain treatment options and what to expect
- Provide a personalised treatment plan and quote
These consultations are no obligation, the choice is always yours.
