Laser Hair Removal Geelong
Research has established that laser hair removal is the most common non-surgical procedure performed in a clinical environment Australia wide. Laser hair removal is a fast and effective way to reduce the amount of unwanted hair on the face and body. As a result, the days of shaving and waxing are becoming a thing of the past.
What does the CRC offer for the removal of unwanted hair?
Here at the CRC we offer a number of medical grade lasers with varying wavelengths that are suited to every skin type. Laser hair removal is based on the principle of laser light absorption that penetrates down the hair to the follicle, absorbing the dark pigment seen in the hair.
How does Laser Hair Removal work?
Laser hair removal is based on the principle of laser light absorption that penetrates down the hair to the follicle, absorbing the dark pigment seen in the hair. This triggers a thermal response that damages the hair follicle and reduces its overall production; leaving the sparing skin unaffected. Within two weeks post treatment, the hair will naturally just fall out.
Laser hair removal is very effective when treating dark pigmented hair that appears coarse and thick, as opposed to thin, pale hair. For example, a black car obtains more heat than a white car due to the amount of pigment visible. Laser hair removal works in the same way.
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
This treatment is relatively a pain-free experience with no downtime. Each laser modality has a cooler attached to it that projects cold air onto the skin’s surface, minimising the feeling of the absorption of laser heat as well as generating a type of numbing effect on the skin. Initially, post-treatment the area may appear red and a little bumpy for up to 24 hours, quite similar to what is seen following a waxing treatment, but this varies for each individual.
How many treatments are usually required for removal of hair?
In the initial stages of laser hair removal, four to six treatments at an interval of around every four to six weeks are required. Factors such as age, hormones, illness or disease can influence why some clients may experience results more quickly than others. However, following this treatment plan allows each individual to achieve a more permanent reduction of hair growth. Further treatments may be required at longer intervals or for maintenance purposes. Prior to each visit, clients are required to shave the area at least one to two days beforehand to allow for better laser light penetration.
How to prepare for a Laser Hair Removal Treatment:
It is recommended that a client shaves the treatment area one to two days prior to their treatment. This is to minimise discomfort felt through heating the hair to the point of destruction as well as ensuring all the laser energy penetrates down to the base of the follicle for optimal results. In between laser hair removal treatments, a client is able to shave as many times as they wish and this will not alter the overall treatment outcome. However, in between treatments waxing or plucking the treated hairs is not advised due to changing the growing nature of the hair.
