Dermal Fillers Geelong

Dermal fillers were originally designed to be injected into the skin to plump out lines and wrinkles, hence the name. However technology has evolved rapidly since then and now we have many ranges of products that are used to fill out hollows and furrows that are left after facial tissues drop as part of ageing or weight loss.

Dermal Fillers At CRC

Because of TGA regulation we have to be very vague when discussing what fillers we use in any published materials, but of course can go into greater depth as part of your consultation.

The Cosmetic Refinement Clinic has a philosophy of age-appropriate rejuvenation – where ‘less is more’. We offer a wide variety of fillers, each suited to different applications.

We will advise you on which filler is best suited to you at the time of consultation. We use a combination of fillers lasting from 4 to 24 months. We do not use permanent fillers, as they are associated with a higher risk of long-term complications including infection and granuloma formation (permanent lump formation that can occur even years after administration), which are hard to treat.

All filler treatments are done by one of our doctors. They are injected through fine needles or cannulas. Cannulas are blunted needles designed to slide through the tissues gently reducing tissue trauma.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Performs The Dermal Fillers?

The treatment is a non-surgical procedure administered via injection by one of our doctors.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

The procedure usually takes between 30-60 minutes. You will have a follow-up appointment in two weeks

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

The longevity of treatment varies from person to person depending on how quickly your body naturally metabolises (breaks down) the filler and what type of filler is used and where it is placed. In some parts of the face the clinical effect will last for years. There are some fillers that are designed to improve the quality of your skin and thicken your tissues by stimulating you to increase your own collagen production. These are often repeated to build up that effect over time, maintaining a very natural look.

Are There Dermal Filler Side Effects?

The injection itself should cause minimal discomfort, however, a local anaesthetic cream may be used to help numb the area being treated. While you may experience no side effects at all if you do they are generally temporary and injection-site related. There is a chance you may experience treatment area redness, pain, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising and or itching.Major complications are extremely rare. They can be reduced by knowing the anatomy of the face, where the blood vessels and nerves are and using advanced techniques. These will be discussed with you at your consultation. The majority of people resume their normal activities immediately following the procedure.

Other side effects that are more common are related primarily to improper placement of the injections. If the drug is placed too close to another muscle it will affect that muscle, for example, the one that lifts the eyelid, then an eyelid droop may occur. Eye drops can help with this until the drug wears off at about 3 months. If someone treats forehead lines without analysing the consequences of weakening the forehead muscle for that patient, then the brow can become heavy and flatter. The outer eyebrows can become arched in a pointed way when the frown is incorrectly injected. These latter problems are easily corrected with complimentary top-up injections. Other common side effects are bruising (especially in the highly vascular crow’s feet area) and a temporary ‘gnat bite’ swelling at the site of injection for about 20 minutes.

What Do Dermal Fillers Look and Feel Like?

Initially, the filler can be likened to soft playdough under the skin and can be moulded for up to 8 weeks, by which time it will have softened and integrated into the tissues. Placed properly you will not see the fillers. Our aim is to have your general appearance improve to look brighter, healthy and well, and none of your friends or family be able to pick you have had an injectable treatment.
