Feeling Lost with Your Skin? You’re Not Alone
When it comes to skincare, especially as your skin begins to change, it can feel completely overwhelming. If you’re thinking, “Where do I even start?” or “Everyone else seems to be using something, should I be too?” I promise, you’re not alone.
We’ve all been there. Every one of us has stood in front of the mirror, confused about what to do next. What makes the difference is the guidance and knowledge we gain along the way and that’s what I’m here to share with you.
What About Kids and Skincare?
There’s a growing trend online showing skincare routines for children as young as seven. While I love that there’s an awareness of skin health, young children really don’t need a skincare routine and often, introducing products too early can do more harm than good.
At this age:
-
Hormones haven’t kicked in yet
-
Their skin is at its healthiest and most balanced
-
The skin naturally rehydrates after bathing
-
There’s no Trans Epidermal Water Loss (which starts later in life)
So unless there’s a specific medical concern, a skincare routine before puberty isn’t necessary.
When to Start Thinking About Skincare
The real changes begin around puberty, when hormones start to impact not just your body, but your skin too. This is when:
-
Oil production ramps up
-
Breakouts might begin
-
You may notice blackheads, congestion or texture changes
-
Hygiene becomes more important overall
It’s totally normal and it’s the perfect time to start gently supporting your skin.

Where Do I Start?
This is the question I hear the most. And it’s a good one! Here’s what I recommend:
1. Do a little research, carefully
Make sure you’re reading or watching reliable content from qualified professionals, not just influencers.
2. Be cautious with social media
TikTok and Instagram are great for makeup tutorials, but when it comes to skincare, they can lead to confusion, misinformation, and sometimes damage.
If you want to see how a routine is applied, like cleansing or moisturising, that’s totally fine. But take advice with a grain of salt, and don’t hesitate to come in for a one-on-one demo.
3. Avoid using too much, too soon
It’s tempting to buy all the products but more isn’t always better. The wrong products (or too many) can irritate your skin or make issues worse. This is especially important for younger skin that’s still developing.
Your Skin Will Change & So Should Your Routine
One thing to remember is that your skin will keep changing. And that’s okay.
-
Seasonal changes can impact your skin
-
You might need a more hydrating cleanser in winter
-
Warmer weather might call for a lightweight gel or foaming cleanser
-
Hormones, stress, and diet also play a role
The key is adjusting your products as your skin evolves.
