Avoiding The Trout Pout
Posted on by Niamh CorduffWhy does the dreaded trout pout happen?
A youthful lip has a sharp edge, called the white roll and also full bodied projection. As we age the fat in the lip disappears and it tends to thin out and roll inwards as a result of the bony loss that occurs . Ultimately the mouth can look like a slit. The bone above the lip loses volume as we age and so it is very easy for added fullness in an aging lip to project outwards and look quite bizarre; the ‘trout pout’.
How we avoid the trout pout
The techniques used in a young lip are quite different to the older lip. In a young lip, we concentrate on the fullness and create ‘poutiness’ with definition. This is inappropriate for an older lip where our aim is to restore a very natural soft lip. Only a very small volume is required in the lip itself and is directed down into the red part. The rest of the filler is directed towards supporting the outer corners to give a very natural look that fits in with the rest of a beautiful but aging face.
